Phragmites
Phragmites is a scientific way of calling common reeds. Phragmites are a wetland species of plants that are found in ever US state. You can also find phragmites around the world, phragmites are an invasive plant meaning they are not native to the United States. Research has been documented that phragmites have been a huge part of the wetland ecosystem.
Native vs. Non-native
There are two different types of phragmites the native type of phragmites is differentiated from the non-native type because of their specific features such as leaf color and stem texture. Native phragmites is a light green color and its texture is smooth and shiny. As compared, to the non-native species which is a dark green color with a rough and non-shiny texture. Another noticeable difference in their features is the native phragmites shed their leaves while the non-native phragmites do not.

Over the past thirty five years rates have more than doubled from 2009 to 2010 to 2011 to 2012. This means that average American adult weight is 24 pounds heavier today. Childhood obesity rates have more than tripled since the nineteen eighties rates have remained the exact same for the past ten years. Obesity is a chronic disease that has a negative effect on many systems in our body.
